Today we had a very special visit from the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra where they showcased original compostions made by South Dakota students this summer! One was our very own Leeann Yellow Earrings! She had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Music Composition Academy and create her very one beautiful piece of music from start to finish! Great Job Leeann!! We all enjoyed hearing your piece and the story behind it!

"We focused our curriculum on the Lead Plant, bridging biology with traditional Dakota practices. The students learned about plant anatomy, food/medicine preparation, and the importance of harvest reciprocity. Best of all, most of our classes were able to get outside onto the trails to successfully identify and harvest the plant themselves.
To celebrate their hard work, we hosted an in-class Lead Plant tea party (complete with cookies!), allowing the students to brew and taste the exact plants they had gathered. We also carefully dried portions of the harvest so the students could take the loose-leaf tea home this week to share the experience and the medicine with their families."
